Matteo graduated from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 2009. Following a year in general practice, he pursued postgraduate research and an internship in surgery and neurosurgery at North Downs Specialist Referrals in 2011. Shortly afterward, Matteo joined the Animal Health Trust for a general internship. By 2013, he had earned the Specialist in Animal Health certificate from the University of Padua and, in 2015, completed the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice.
In September 2015, Matteo embarked on a three-year ECVS-approved residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Liverpool's Small Animal Teaching Hospital. He further advanced his expertise by obtaining a Master in Veterinary Professional Studies in 2018. Matteo currently serves as a lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College.
With a particular focus on minimally invasive surgery, Matteo is skilled in interventional radiology and video-assisted surgery. He has a keen interest in therapeutic options for vascular anomalies, non-resectable cancers, and respiratory and urinary obstructions. His passion for veterinary medicine also led him to co-found VetSpoke.
